The Loneliness Epidemic

According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), 30% of adults in the US reported feeling lonely at least once a week, and 10% reported feeling lonely every day.

Studies show that strong social connections lower the risk of depression by up to 50%. Loneliness, on the other hand, increases the likelihood of depression and anxiety.

Sympathy, Empathy, and Compassion:
Understanding the Difference

Sympathy
Sympathy involves acknowledging another person’s pain and expressing sorrow for their situation. It’s about recognizing someone’s struggles from an external perspective without necessarily sharing or understanding their emotions on a deeper level.

Empathy
Empathy goes a step further, as it involves truly understanding and feeling what another person is experiencing. It’s the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and connect with their emotions on a profound level.

Compassion
Compassion builds upon empathy by adding the desire to help alleviate someone’s suffering. It’s an active response that combines understanding with a genuine intention to support and care for others.

Compassionate Connection FAQ's

Is this a therapy or counseling service?

While this service offers emotional support, it is not a substitute for professional therapy or counseling. If you require clinical treatment, we’re happy to support you finding a licensed professional.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, all sessions are confidential. Anonymity is encouraged to allow you to be completely honest and forthright.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

That’s okay! Start with what is on your mind. It may take time for you to feel comfortable opening up. Go at your own pace.

Does compassionate connection help build self-compassion?

Compassion will offer encouragement, acceptance, and kindness. Being treated with loving-kindness and understanding can help you learn techniques for self-compassion. Trinity will point out negative self-talk and disparaging comments about yourself and help to see your true value and worth.

What are common barriers to Compassionate Connection?

Barriers include lack of self-awareness, fear of vulnerability, judgement, assumptions, and distractions. Recognizing these challenges is the first step to overcoming them.

What is discouraged in Compassionate Connection?

No shaming or blaming with compassionate connectionStorytelling. It is a common misconception that the story is needed to be understood. Retelling the story easily escalates the charged emotions, which isn’t helpful. In Compassionate Connection we focus on feelings, not the people, places or events.

Blaming or Shaming. Negative emotions can arise when blame or shame is targeted. Pointed inward or outward, shaming and blaming can perpetuate a cycle of negative behavior and delay healing and forgiveness. This does not minimize the need for responsibility and accountability.

Key Components to Compassionate Connection include:

A Safe and Judgment-Free Space: Trinity provides a welcoming environment where you can share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or criticism. Your story matters, and she is here to listen.

Acceptance: All your parts are welcome here. The exiles, shadows, shame, anger are all welcome here.

Empathy: Taking time to understand what you have shared.

Active Listening: Fully focusing on you without judgment or distraction.

Nonviolent Communication: Expressing yourself honestly and receiving others’ communication with kindness.

Patience and Presence: Being fully present and patient in your interactions.
